McKinney-Vento Consortium
On behalf of the counties of Montcalm, Ionia, Gratiot, and Isabella, MAISD applies for and coordinates the McKinney-Vento Homeless Grant to support our 31 participating districts in supporting students experiencing homelessness, connecting them to community resources, and complying with federal law. We are a service consortium. Meaning, we use the funds from the McKinney-Vento grant to support our districts with services (in large part, staffing) and direct supports.
The grant is small, even with all of our participating districts, but we do have some funds available for emergency and stop gap services and supplies. In addition, we actively seek funding sources to supplement the McKinney-Vento grant dollars to stretch our resources as far as possible. Using funding from the McKinney-Vento grant, donations, and some general fund dollars, we currently provide the following staff and services:
Grant application, management, budgeting, and reporting to MDE. (Associate Superintendent of Instruction, Grant Coordinator, MAISD)
Community partnerships and participation in the local planning body, MDE trainings (Grant Coordinator, MAISD)
Technical assistance with Desk Document Audit, year-end reporting, identification of homeless students and unaccompanied youth, district responsibility, Title I coordination, as requested (Grant Coordinator, Associate Superintendent of Instruction, MAISD)
A very small amount of funds available for emergency and stop gap services and supplies, as requested and remaining/available.
