AT also can be programs (software) that run on computers and tell the computers what to do. The cost of AT can range from a few dollars for “low-tech” equipment to thousands of dollars for “high-tech” items. Before you spend any money, take time to learn all you can about AT. Have your child try out the tool or device first. The Montcalm Area ISD has an AT lending library located at the Seiter Education Service Center. MAISD staff have access to the lending library database by logging into the Intranet then clicking on the Filemaker Database link located on the left side of the page. You may check out an item by calling or emailing Colleen Norton at the above phone or email address. Assistive Technology also can increase self-reliance and independence. Many times, kids who struggle in school depend on parents, siblings, friends, and teachers for help with assignments. By using AT, kids learn they can do things on their own.
